| 6/23/2010 I've had a (very) few people ask about HauntProject shirts. I looked into custom printing, but I doubt there's going to be enough interest to justify buying the minimum quantities. So... for anyone interested, I set up a CafePress site with a few shirts and a bumper sticker. If there are any other products on that site you'd be interested in, let me know and I'll set it up. Link to the HauntProject Store is to your lower right. Small markup on the shirt will go directly to beer and Halloween stuff for yours truly. Hey, at least I still don't allow ads. :)

| 2/4/2010 Well, that time of year again, heading off on the Bloody Mary cruise, and won't have internet access until the 14th.
I'll approve stuff when I get back.
| |
| 11/2/2009 Thanks to Make Magazine mentioning us in their blog, and Gizmodo picking it up, this was the best traffic season yet for HauntProject.
Thanks also to everyone who submitted their projects... without you all, HauntProject wouldn't be possible
Things will probably be a bit slow around here as I recover from my own personal yard haunt, but I'll continue to approve any projects that you submit.
Thanks!

| 9/9/2009 Calling all how-tos! Yes, that means you. Yes you. The one in the back with the "inadequate" how-to that no one wants to see because you know they've seen it 1000 times before.
Truth is, everyone has something new to add.
If you have a how-to you want to show people, now is the time. It's the busy season and I'm edging up over 1000 unique visits a day.
All I ask is that it has some good pics of the process and some good explanatory text. If you think it doesn't have enough detail to constitute a how-to... well, try me. Worst I'm going to do is tell you that it needs a few more pics or some more explanatory text.
Don't have a website? Try joining Hauntforum.com, garageofevilnetwork.com or the like, and putting your how to in a post there. Then you can submit a link to your post or email me a link to it (email at the bottom of every page on HauntProject.com).
My personal goal is at least 5 new projects added to HauntProject per week until I get too busy with my own haunt in October, and I'm lazy enough to hope that some of you will fill in my slack.
Got a Halloween related business? Submit it to the Vendors section. I do exercise some editorial control, but I've only had to refuse a few in the last 3 years.
Same goes for your personal haunt website or your pro-haunt Submit it to the "Haunts" section, and odds are that it will be approved.

| 9/3/2009 Well, we are either into the build season or WAY into the build season, depending on who you talk to. I'm doing a reboot on hit count. If you have a problem with that... bummer, that's one of the nice things about owning the site. :)
| |
| 7/27/2008 With the addition of the power strip motion hack by Beelce, I now have enough similar how-to's to justify making a new category... Prop Triggers.
Enjoy!
| |
| 5/15/2008 I read a LOT of webcomics... way too many, in fact. I thought I'd add a "Halloween Comics" section in to share some of my favorite morbid webcomics. Hey, my site, my rules. :)
| |
| 4/30/2008 Minor site change. I have the categories in random order so that everyone's prop has the chance to be at the top.
The problem is, things like the pneumatics category are getting so large, it's hard to see the new projects. Thanks to a suggestion by Kerry, I've changed it so that the new projects show up on top for the first two weeks, and the rest are random. After the two weeks are up, the projects get randomized with the rest.

| 4/29/2008 **UpdateThe shirt has been taken. Congrats to Brian of http://www.burrhillboneyard.net/!** FREE STUFF!
And by stuff, I mean thing. And by thing, I mean shirt. Singular. Had an embroidered HauntProject logo shirt made for myself, and I've under-grown it (yay!)
It's a black 2X mens polo shirt with the HauntProject logo. It was only worn once, and has been washed since then. :)
First responder to Perfessorevil gets it.
Here is a couple of pics:

| 4/2/2008 Counters Reset! The people have spoken, and I've reset the counters. Thanks to everyone who voted! I went ahead and set the "Top 10" to first order by number of visits, then by random. That means that until sites start getting visited, it's going to randomly select from all the ones with zero visits.
| |
| 3/26/2008 Ya know... it struck me today. My visit counts to projects may be inflated by spiders and spambots, so I implemented some code that won't increment a counter if the hit is from a known spider.
I'm not really looking forward to seeing how this changes things, but better to know your real visits than to just think people are using the site. LOL In fact, I'm thinking about resetting the hit counters entirely. What do you think?
| |
| 3/7/2008 Looks like Hauntproject was one of the winners of the Ghoul Skool award last year, and I just noticed. Doh!
I'm in good company... they have a lot of great sites listed. Check em out!

| |
| 1/10/2008 Woohoo! Bloody Mary Crazy Bob Moonlight Fantasy Cruise time! I'll be out at sea or in Mexico until the 20th, so if you submit anything, I'll approve it when I get back.
In other news... please submit stuff! Purty please? Don't make me beg!
| |
| 12/4/2007 Calloween, please contact me at perfessorevil@hauntproject.com about your Monster in a Box entry
| |
| 10/21/2007 DEAD DEAD DEAD! I hate dead links... not so much for the work involved to get them off of the main page, but more because of the loss of great how-to's. Well, it's not perfect, but I put a link to archive.org under each dead link on the "Dead" page. Some pages have been archived, some haven't, but hey, it's better than nothing, right? PerfessorEvil

| 9/12/2007 If you can read this... WE'RE BACK BABY, YEAH! Oops, that was obnoxious, sorry. My former webhost wasn't stable enough or responsive enough to my issues (Read that as "at all") so I said the hell with the 9 months left in my account and dumped them. I can't afford the downtime this close to Halloween... it's not fair to you guys. I have a new directory structure, but I'm still going to keep a mirror at www.perfessorevil.com/hauntproject/ just in case. Its good to be back
Update: Ok, so I spoke too soon... perfessorevil.com got released and propagated before Hauntproject.com, so if you are reading this on www.perfessorevil.com/hauntproject/ , we might not be 100% back. :)
| |
| 5/2/2007 Added a Makeup and Prosthetics category... why? Because it's something I'm interested in learning, and I hope someone posts stuff!
| |
| 3/14/2007 If you're reading this, we're back!
The conversion over to the new server obviously wasn't *totally* painless, but all in all, not too bad. They missed my "additional domain" for HauntProject (like I knew they would), but on the plus side... I've got a TON more space and bandwidth to play with now... not to mention the admin tool is much better.
| |
| 3/6/2007 POSSIBLE DOWN TIME My webhost has informed me that they are moving my sites to a new server on March 12th. They say that there should be zero downtime, but... I don't believe them. Hauntproject is an "additional domain" on my account, and they always seem to screw those up when making changes. If you need to access the site on Monday, and it's down, try http://www.perfessorevil.com/hauntproject/
| |
| 2/3/2007 I'm back from vacation, and working on the site. I've added in a "Prop Making Club" section to the Non-projects section. This section is for those groups that get together periodically to do demos, Make-and-takes, etc. I belong to CalHauntS Norcal, and it's amazing how much of a difference it makes when you meet each month to build something Halloween. I've also considered adding in a Pro-Haunt listing section, organized by state. Good idea? Bad idea? Email me at hauntproject@perfessorevil.com and let me know what you think
| |
| 12/20/2006 ARGH! Some SPAM bots found my submit page, and started submitting links for various sites... 4 of them so far today. I've wrote some additional validation into the submit routine, so that shouldn't happen again.
Email me if you have any problems submitting your project.
Thanks!
PerfessorEvil

| 12/17/2006 I've added a simple search function to the board. It will find a project with the search string in the url, description, picture url, or category. If more than one word is used in the search box, it will find any place where both words are included. It will NOT search across items though... for example, if you use two words, and one word is in the URL and the other word is in the description, it won't find it. When submitting your links, keep this in mind... the more detailed your description, the more likely it is to come up on a search. Enjoy!
| |
| 10/6/2006 Attn: SkeletonHand. Please email me at hauntproject@perfessorevil.com about your project. I can't find your email address anywhere on your page.
| |
| 9/25/2006 8:00:00 PM PerfessorEvil is a sellout!!! LOL Actually, I just wanted a HauntProject bumper sticker for my hearse, so I set up a CafePress site. I figure, well, what the heck, I already have the bumper sticker set up, so I might as well put a link to it on the site on the off chance someone else wants one. Link is on the bottom right, or you can click HERE
| |
| 9/13/2006 We've been getting some awesome Paper Mache projects submitted, so I made it into it's own category
| |
| 8/19/2006 Added a "Costumes" category. Enjoy!
| |
| 7/13/2006 Had a big database crash, had to reload from a 13 day old backup. If you had submitted your project between then and now, please resubmit. Sorry for the inconvenience.
| |
| 7/6/2006 I've added the ability for you, the user, to report a link as dead. All you need to do is click on the "Report Dead Link" under the
dead project, and it will update the database with your report
Once a project has 6 reports, it is automatically moved to the "Dead Link" section, where I'll review it.
If it's just the picture that's missing, go ahead and report that too. I'll research it and update as necessary.
Just an FYI, it checks the last IP address of the person who reported, so even if you click the report button a bazillion times, it will only count once until someone else reports it.
This does mean that it will take longer for a link to drop to the dead link section, but keeps someone from just going through and reporting them all just to be a pain.
What's that you say? Am I just doing this because I'm too lazy to do the work myself? That's a very good question. Yep. Gooood question. So how about those [insert sports team name here]?
| |
| 6/1/2006 Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear HauntProject, Happy birthday to you!
HauntProject turns 2 today, and I've renewed the domain registration for another 5 years, so we'll be around for a bit.
Once again, I want to thank Hollyberry for coming up with the original concept for the site.
(if you're wondering what HauntProject wants for it's birthday... it wants YOU to add in your project!) Thanks to everyone over the last two years who has either added their own project in, or allowed me to add it!
| |
| 5/11/2006 I've added a RSS feed to the site. What's a RSS feed you ask? Heck if I know how to describe it... I barely got it set up
If you are using Google homepage or Google Reader, you can use this button. .
If you are using Firefox, there should be an orange icon that looks like this on the bottom right hand part of your browser window Click on that, and select "Subscribe to HauntProject RSS" to get started.
If you are using something else, I can't help you, I barely know what I did to create it. :) The actual feed is here: http://www.hauntproject.com/hauntprojectrss.asp Email me HERE if you have any problems.
| |
| 2/4/2006 Categories with a link submitted within the last 14 days will be preceded by "NEW"
| |
| 8/24/2005 Someone posted a link to their convention, I thought it was a good idea. There is now a Conventions category. Like the other non-project categories it does not show in the total count, the last one submitted won't be on this page (that's reserved for the newest project submitted), but they do show up in the "Last 10 Links Added" section. Enjoy!
| |
| 8/14/2005 I have added a 'Vendors' section. If you have a website that sells Halloween related projects, feel free to submit your banner here. Just select 'Vendors' from the category.
| |
| 5/23/2005 I have added an approval process so that I can make sure that no inappropriate links and/or pictures find their way onto the site. If it has been more than a couple of days, and your project is still not showing up, email me here.
| |
| 8/15/2004 Since there seems to be an interest, I have added a "Haunts" category that people can use to post their personal haunts. Please use either a banner for your site, or a good frontal view of your haunt. Enjoy! - PerfessorEvil
